Our story

A lockdown idea, that outgrew the house

Brothers Woodcraft is a small, home-based business making quality handmade products from wood. The idea was born during lockdown, with regular work on hold and plenty of time suddenly on our hands. It started with one simple question: “What can I do to keep myself busy?” — while waiting to get back to a regular job.

The answer turned out to be a puzzle, literally. What began as a way to pass the time at home quickly found an audience, and it didn't take long for word to spread. Orders started coming in faster than expected, and sooner rather than later, Brothers Woodcraft had stopped being a lockdown project and started being a real, working business.

Our flagship product is a complete six-puzzle wooden brain teaser set, built to challenge everyone from six-year-olds to grandparents. Each puzzle in the set is graded a little harder than the last, trading quick fixes for patience, logical thinking, and problem-solving — a screen-free way to sharpen the mind, one knot at a time. Made from wood rather than plastic, every set is built to be a keepsake, not a toy that gets thrown out after a week.

You'll find the complete set available nationwide through Takealot, where it holds an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 from dozens of customers, alongside a steady resale market on marketplaces like Bob Shop — a good sign these puzzles get passed on and played with, not packed away. Where most imported wooden puzzles sell a single trick, we build a full graded collection for families, classrooms, and corporate gifting alike. That's still the idea behind Brothers Woodcraft: an engaging, reusable product worth the money, and worth giving away.

Quality handmade products

What we believe

A small workshop stays small for a reason

Actually handmade

Every puzzle passes through our hands — no outsourced cutting, no bulk imports.

Honest materials

Treated solid wood, real steel rings, and proper polybraid rope — nothing that snaps after a week.

Proudly local

Designed, cut, and packed right here in South Africa, not imported and rebranded.

Fair pricing

No middleman markup — you're paying for the wood and the work, not a warehouse.

How it's made

From offcut to brain teaser

Step 1

Shape the wood

Treated solid wood blocks are cut, drilled, and sanded smooth for each puzzle in the set.

Step 2

Thread & lock

Polybraid rope is threaded through the wood by hand — on trickier levels, a steel ring gets added along the way to lock it together. Every level assembles a little differently.

Step 3

Final touches

The last step depends on the puzzle — most get their beads glued onto the polybraid rope ends, while a couple have the polybraid rope glued straight into the wood instead.

Step 4

Inspection and packaging

We inspect each puzzle ourselves before it's packaged and boxed, just to be sure it's actually solvable.
